I would like to nominate Lisa Wansitler for Volunteer of the Month. While I was out on maternity leave she came inevery week to assist my substitute in making copies and prepping materials, working long hours to get everything done. This enabled Miss Miller to just focus on teaching and supporting my students. I appreciate her dedication to our class!
Betsy Sanford - Second Grade
I would like to nominate Jennie Wildermuth and Cindy Wood as Volunteers of the Month!
Jennie volunteers in the library for both of her daughters’ classes. She greets each student by name as they are checking out their books and other materials. Jennie also chaired the PTA Scholastic Book Fair which was a huge success. Kids get great titles, the Eagle Reader program is supported with profits in books, and the library receives part of the profit too!
Cindy has volunteered in the library during her granddaughter’s class for several years. She is always dependable! This year she discovered that I didn’t have a volunteer for one of my Kindergarten classes so she volunteers during that time as well. Cindy is a valuable part of our community!

January
Molly Norton works in my classroom every week. She is on the schedule to help with math, but will stay and help me with any other things I need done, and that flexibility is a big help. She is an excellent example of the great parent volunteers we have at Maple Hills!
Debbie Jones - Second Grade
I would like to nominate Jennifer Papp and Lori Calhoun as volunteers of the month! They have been invaluable in getting Science lessons ready for me and the students. Also, they are willing to jump in and help with any project. Jennifer has also organized our Auction Project!
Susan Cherry - 4th Grade
I would like to nominate Kim Weiss for Volunteer of the Month for her dedication to the Giving Tree Program. She was here most every day checking on and picking up gifts, storing them at her home and helped make the holiday season better for 8 families in the Issaquah area. The gifts were delivered to the Food Bank.
Suzanne Schantz, Secretary, Maple Hills
I second this! Kim has put in a lot of time doing the Giving Tree. She has a very generous heart!

December
I would like to nominate Cathy Shalkle for volunteer of the month. She is the grandmother of a student in my classroom who helps out about every other Wednesday and does an absolutely wonderful job with anything I ask her to do. She enters the classroom with a warm smile and an eagerness to help out in any way that she can. Not only does she help out in the classroom, but she also helped out in the garden by harvesting the beets with the students that they planted in second grade. She took that one step further and took the beets home, cleaned them, pickled half and roasted the other half. Later she brought the beets to school for the students to try the two varieties. The students got to see the beets full cycle from planting, to harvesting, to the dinner table, due to her efforts. Cathy always goes above and beyond. We appreciate all you do for us.
Kelly Brunell – Third Grade
I would like to recognize Tammy Hansen and Melanie Dilworth as Volunteers of the Month. These ladies have been volunteering for me in the library for a couple of years. They are responsible and efficient! I never have to come up with a list of things for them to do, they just see what needs done and DO IT! Their efforts are greatly appreciated.
Carol Fujioka - Maple Hills Teacher-Librarian
November
I would love to nominate Korista Barney, Darlene Weigle, and Lorenza Scott as Volunteers of the Month. Although they have never worked in the library before, these wonderful ladies stepped up to volunteer for A.M. and P.M. Kindergarten classes. The Kindergarten students are learning their way around the library and checking out books for the first time. It is very helpful to have another adult in the room who can take care of the checking out part so that I can spend time working with and helping my students.
Many thanks!

October
I would like to nominate Stephanie Nored as a Volunteer of the Month! She has been volunteering for me in the library for several years and has been my library docent for the past two. That means that she finds volunteers to fit with my schedule. Often times, she will come in and cover a “shift” herself if no one is available. Because of her dedication, I was able to get books in the hands of students during the first days of school! She volunteers for Maple Hills and Briarwood in several capacities and she is invaluable to our community.
Nominated by Carol Fujioka
I would like to recommend Kimberly Montague who was a HUGE help in the office with preparing opening day packets and assorted other copying/collating jobs. Thank you Kimberly for all you do!!
