2008 Walk-a-Thon Event Dates to Remember

Show your school spirit! It’s fun, friends and footwork for the whole family! Haul out those walking shoes and get ready to walk for our school.  RAIN or SHINE, on Friday May 16th from to .

The Walk-a-Thon is a supplemental PTA fundraiser that is held on non auction years.  We hope to raise $15,000 ($40 per student) to go directly back to the teachers for classroom enrichment and to sponsor other PTA programs.  The success of this event is based upon efforts of the individual students getting pledges and participating in the walk.  Please encourage your child to get involved and have some fun while walking for Maple Hills!  This is a great activity.  We encourage parents and friends to walk with our students, cheer them on from the sidelines or volunteer their time to make this event a smashing success.

May 12th                      PLEDGE ENVELOPES DUE!!  Return completed pledge

envelopes (do not include any money at this time) to classrooms.

May 16th                      WALK!!  Wear your best walking shoes and join all your Maple

Hills friends.  Envelopes marked with the number of laps

completed will be returned to the students for pledge collection.

Reflections 2007-2008

Congratulations to our Maple Hills Elementary School Finalists for this year’s Reflections, a National PTA sponsored arts
program! They enjoyed a fun awards reception yesterday afternoon with an art walk and an ice cream sundae bar!
Each finalist also received a $5 gift card to Target. Our theme this year was "I Can Make a Difference By…" Students came
up with some inspiring answers to that question and some imaginative Visual Arts and Literature entries. Our school finalists
will be representing Maple Hills at the Issaquah School District level and will be recognized at a district-wide reception in
January. Entries will be judged based on artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of theme.

This year’s Reflections finalists are:
Kierra Costello Fourth Grade, Mrs. Johnson Visual Arts
Rolf Encarnacion First Grade, Mrs. Cherry Visual Arts
Kyle George First Grade, Mrs. Haberman Visual Arts
Kerrek Matson First Grade, Mrs. Cherry Visual Arts
Grace Morford Third Grade, Mrs. Brunell Visual Arts
McKaye Noel Kindergarten, Mrs. Stempson Visual Arts
David Rand Third Grade, Mrs. McCulloh Literature
Annabelle Smith First Grade, Mrs. Haberman Visual Arts
Lindsey Williams Fifth Grade, Mrs. Peterson Visual Arts
Lacey Williams First Grade, Mrs. Cherry Visual Arts

Congratulations to these students on using their time, efforts, and creativity on these terrific Reflections entries.
Mrs. Cherry had the most entries from her class with three students, and she will also get a Target gift card.
If you missed out on participating this year, we’d love to have you show us what you can do for next fall’s Reflections
Program! Watch the PTA newsletter and Kid Mail for more information starting next September.
Also, those of you who have submitted entries to the Reflections programs in 2005 and 2006, please contact Marcy
Rand at 425-227-8393 or ograymar@msn.com
to pick up your pieces from those past years of the program.
In keeping with our theme this year, we’ll leave you with a thought on making a difference from Earvin Magic Johnson,
a former NBA basketball star: "You're the only one who can make the difference. Whatever your dream is, go
for it."
